The Function of Reading Aloud in English Learning


Reading aloud is a traditional method of English language learning. It refers to expressing the emotional thoughts in the linguistic materials by using some reading skills such as stress, rhythm, and tone. It means reading out the words, sentence or passage loud and clear. This thesis deals with the function of reading aloud in English learning. It mainly introduces the function of reading aloud from three aspects: the definition of reading aloud; some reasons, sorts and tips for improving reading aloud; and the relationship between reading aloud and four basic English skills, i.e. listening, speaking, reading and writing. The main aim of this thesis is to discuss how reading aloud plays the important role in English learning.
Reading aloud has a factor of reading, so it plays a pivotal role in learning English well. By discussing the role of reading aloud, this thesis argues that reading aloud not only can help in fostering the sense of language and intensifying memory, but also triggering and improving the creative thinking. If students have a better ability of reading aloud, they would understand the word, sentence and passage more quickly and directly, later, they would turn all of these to their own knowledge.
