On Some Commonly-Used Figures of Speech in English Advertisements and Their Chinese Translation

Abstract

The pragmatic application of figures of speech in advertisement is a frequently used strategy, while the advertisement’s aim is to make the customers have a basic knowledge of the products and promote their buying desire. Good advertisement translation is closely related to the figures of speech and the culture. Though there are many researches about figures of speech in English advertisement today, it’s still far from needed. The main purpose of the thesis is to analyze the deliberate application of several figures of speech in some advertisements and the effect they create through examples, from which we can acquire the basic methods of translating English advertisement.

摘  要

修辞格的应用是广告的1种常用策略,而广告的目的是为了让顾客对产品有基本的认识并激发他们的购买欲望。好的广告翻译与修辞格和文化有着密切的联系。尽管当今有很多关于广告修辞格的研究,但对其细致的翻译研究却是远远不够的。本文从英语广告的修辞特征出发,通过着重分析几种常用的广告修辞格的运用及其所产生的效果,解析广告修辞的语言特色,并结合1些常见的翻译方法来学习翻译英语广告的基本方法,从而让大家了解并学习1些常用的英语广告翻译的方法。
