Commonly-used Translation Techniques Used in the Chinese Translation of The Old Man and the Sea
Translation techniques come from the practice of translation. In the process of translation, sometimes the translations of each sentence and each word are extremely correct, but the entire translation is not clear and accurate, the logic is chaotic, and the central idea is fuzzy, because of lacking translation strategies and techniques. Therefore, the mastery of translation techniques is a very important aspect of a good translation. In this thesis, the author attempts to discuss the commonly-used translation techniques used in the Chinese translations of The Old Man and the Sea, illustrating with examples taken from three different Chinese versions of the novel. Through a comparative study of the three Chinese versions (Zhang Ailing¡¯s version, Hai Guan¡¯s version and Wu Lao¡¯s version) of the English novel The Old Man and the Sea, the thesis aims at probing into suitable ways of applying translation techniques to translation practice.
