从《无名女人》的翻译论汤亭亭的写作策略——文化翻译

Abstract

Maxine Hong Kingston, the Chinese American woman who is at the double marginality in Chinese traditional culture and American society, makes her voice heard by the world. Based on the post-colonialism theory of cultural translation, this paper aims to analyze Maxine Hong Kingston’s short story No Name Woman from writing strategy. First, the features of cultural translation, and the functions to the novel and to the society, and the background of cultural translation are analyzed through some examples from the short story No Name Woman. Second, the author tries to re-invent Chinese-American identity not only by criticizing the cultural hegemony of the so-called American Orientalist Discourse, but also by asserting the despotic Chinese-American self as a new ethnic entity of cultural translation. Finally, an objective comment on Maxine Hong Kingston’s writing strategy is made. And we can find that Maxine Hong Kingston uses the two-way translation as her writing strategy that she uses to object to the main structure of American culture

摘  要

汤亭亭,这位处于中国传统文化和美国现代社会“双重边缘”的华裔女性作家以自己独特的写作策略和独特的语言使自己的声音被全世界所听到。从文化角度来看,世界不同的地区有着不同的文化。不同的文化之间必然有着冲突也必然有着融合。运用文化翻译的后殖民主义理论,本论文旨在从写作策略的角度出发分析汤亭亭的短篇小说《无名女人》,介绍文化翻译的特点、产生的背景、产生的原因 、在文中的表达方式以及在文中和社会的功能。同时,批判美国的东方论述的霸权,质疑国外社会的大众传媒对华裔美国人、中国人以及中国传统文化形象的扭曲。重新塑造建构华裔美国人、中国人以及中国传统文化的形象。同时,在看似与美国文化融为1体的现象中,分析华裔作家的文化属性,并给出1个客观的评价。
